Google is launching a new tool that allows you to remove information about yourself from the Internet.
Back in May, Google announced a new tool designed to simplify the process of deleting search results containing your contact and other personal information. The new functionality was launched on September 28, 2022.
9to5Google was the first to report this.
The Google app on Android will have a new "Results about you" menu.
This menu item will allow you to quickly submit a request to Google to remove personal information from the search (phone number, home address, email address or other personal data).
Also, the feature will enable notifications of new results of contact information so that you can quickly submit a request for its deletion.
To request the removal of personal information from search, in the Google app on Android, you need to click on the profile avatar and find the new menu item "Results about you". This menu redirects users to a page that explains how they can submit a request to Google to remove their search results.
If, while browsing, you find information that you want to delete, click on the additional menu with three dots in the upper right corner of each result. The "About This" results panel will open with a new "Delete result" option at the bottom of the screen.
After completing this process, you can track the progress of the delete request. In addition to the All Requests channel, you will have filters such as In Progress and Approved. This page also allows you to make a new request with a step-by-step guide asking "Why do you want to delete this result?" with options:
- Shown here is my personal contact information;
- This shows my contact with the intent to harm me;
- Other personal information provided;
- Contains illegal information;
- This is outdated.
It should be noted that this functionality is gradually becoming available in different countries, users in the US already have the opportunity to test it, but it is not yet available for Ukraine. Like most updates, when exactly this feature becomes available will depend on the version of Android on your device.
An interesting update, especially for those who value privacy. We will inform you when this functionality will work for Ukrainian users, follow the news in our TG channel: https://t.me/Smart_target_info
